The Hong Kong Bar Association recently hosted a delegation from the Shanghai Bar Association to discuss collaborative efforts in handling international commercial adjudications and arbitrations.

Jose-Antonio Maurellet, the chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, extended a warm welcome to the 30-member delegation from the Arbitration Committee of the Shanghai Bar Association during their visit on Wednesday (Mar 26).
He introduced the advantages of Hong Kong barristers in international arbitration, notably their common law training and being biliterate and trilingual.
Maurellet emphasized that the collaboration between Hong Kong barristers and mainland lawyers could yield a robust legal team capable of providing exceptional services in international arbitration. This partnership is anticipated to enhance the global development of mainland enterprises while delivering high-quality legal support.
Furthermore, he indicated that the Hong Kong Bar Association is actively engaged in partnerships with various educational institutions to offer common law courses aimed at developing legal professionals equipped to address foreign-related legal matters for the country.
Huang Ningning, the vice president of the Shanghai Bar Association, noted that the Shanghai International Commercial Court has recently been established to handle international commercial adjudications and arbitrations.
He remarked on the professionalism and expertise of Hong Kong barristers in handling foreign-related cases and expressed hope that they would undertake increasingly diverse roles in international commercial matters in Shanghai in the future.
