Following complaints from citizens, the department conducted a two-day raid in the area. In addition to destroying the 180 kilograms of frozen beef, the FEHD also confiscated 123 kilograms of pre-packaged frozen beef for preservative testing.
The FEHD announced that it will revoke the licenses of the fresh provision shops involved and is considering prosecution. Shop owners who failed to provide delivery records for inspection were also issued verbal warnings.
The department has reiterated that disguising frozen meat as fresh meat constitutes a serious offense. To combat such malpractice in the future, the FEHD will enhance routine inspections and respond swiftly to public complaints.
Furthermore, meat shops found to have violated regulations will face strict scrutiny during the relicensing process to ensure compliance with food safety and FEHD standards.
