Writing in a post on the platform Threads, the owner said he left a backpack with valuables in a McDonald's branch at the Pacifica Mall in Lai Chi Kok last Saturday, with HK$100,000 cash, a stash of undeposited cheques, among other items.
Upon realizing he had lost the bag, he hurried back to the fast food restaurant, only to find that the branch had already closed, with the staff busy tidying up.
The desperate owner asked the employees about his lost bag and was told that they had already reported it to the police. At the end, he managed to get his backpack with all the valuables untouched.
In the social media post, he wrote: “It’s because you took my lost item so seriously that I feel compelled to do something in return to honor your dedication.”
He not only emailed both the Hong Kong and US companies of McDonald's to praise their staff’s handling of the incident but also personally delivered a fruit basket and a thank-you letter to the staff.
He further expressed: “This time, I really want more people to know about everything the staff at this branch did for me. Their smiles when they realized they had helped me...so adorable.”
After the story went viral on the internet, praises flooded in from netizens.
Some left comments in Chinese such as, “a good deed worth the praise… truly embodies the spirit of Hongkongers,” “a high level of professionalism deserves recognition,” “good people meeting good people—appreciate your gratitude and actions,” “what a wonderful encounter!” and “So happy for you!”
