Over 35,000 suggestions received for giant panda twin cubs naming

Ocean Park said on Saturday that the Giant Panda Twin Cubs Naming Competition has received overwhelming responses, with more than 35,700 suggestions received.

The government-organized competition concluded on Friday (Mar 7) as residents were encouraged to propose names for the cuddly twins and explain the meanings behind the names.

A judging panel will select the winning names based on their meanings, creativity, and how well they reflect the cubs' playful and charming personalities. The final decision on the new names will be announced in the first half of this year.

Putonghua pinyin of the selected Chinese names will be adopted as the English names of the twin cubs. Meanwhile, the affectionate names "Elder Sister" and "Little Brother" will be retained as the nicknames of the cuddly twins.
