The Kowloon West Regional Police Headquarters on Tuesday (Feb 24) conducted the joint operation in various traffic blackspot across the city, such as Sham Shui Po, Kowloon City, Yau Tsim and Mong Kok, targeting violations among pedestrians and drivers.
The violations addressed in the operations included illegal parking, jaywalking, failing to give precedence to pedestrians on zebra crossing, yellow stripe crossing, using handheld mobile phones and telecommunications equipment while the vehicle is in motion, and careless driving.
Meanwhile, officers stopped individuals from riding electric bicycles in the district, resulting in the arrest of four individuals aged between 18 and 38.
They were suspected of various offenses, including dangerous driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, using a vehicle without third-party insurance and driving without a helmet.
The police reminded the public that illegal parking could cause severe traffic congestion or endanger other road users. Drivers will not only face fines but also have their vehicles towed without notice.
Additionally, the police reiterated that riding electric bikes in urban areas is illegal and would not be covered by any third-party insurance, adding victims will be unable to file civil claims against insurance companies if a traffic accident occurs.
