The netizens said the 200 yuan price floor was implemented by mainland authorities in December last year, while airlines will receive a warning for selling tickets below this minimum threshold.
According to local reports, China Southern Airlines, Air China, Sichuan Airlines, and Shandong Airlines all denied receiving official guidelines on the sales of flight tickets, adding that ticket prices fluctuate based on market demand.
A search for domestic flight tickets on Monday revealed that prices for flights departing from Shanghai to cities such as Chengdu, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Xiamen across the country are all above 200 yuan.
For instance, the price for a flight departing from Shanghai to Shenzhen at 7.30am on Friday is 229 yuan (around HK$244).
