The two roles are Deputy Chief Fire Officer in the Fire Services Department, and the Assistant Director of Immigration in the ImmD.
The Deputy Chief Fire Officer will be in charge of developing, implementing, and steering building fire safety measures, with a monthly salary range of HK$168,815 to HK$184,835.
The post is set to be effective for three years starting from April 1 if the Legislative Council's Establishment Subcommittee passes the proposal.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Director of Immigration will handle non-refoulement claims, with a proposed monthly salary between HK$194,825 and HK$212,900, beginning on April 1 and lasting 2 years.
Undersecretary for Security Michael Cheuk Hau-yip pointed out that the level 3 fire broke out at New Lucky House in Jordan last April raised the public concern over the fire safety of old buildings.
He emphasized the importance of continuing the inspection work, explaining that the deputy chief fire officer would integrate social resources to speed up the process, working alongside 480 fire contractors.
As for the Assistant Director of Immigration post, it was claimed that the retention was owing to the increasing number of non-refoulement claimants and non-Chinese illegal immigrants, which would impose a significant burden on society and pose a security risk.
