A photo of a bakery staffer cleaning a bread shelf with a floor mop circulated online starting Tuesday. It is understood that the bakery is a chain store branch located at Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre.
The witness who photographed the shocking scene shared the photo on Facebook, saying it was his “first time seeing people cleaning bread shelves with a floor mop”, adding he will never purchase a thing from this shop again.
According to Google Maps, the chain store also has branches in Kwun Tong and Tin Shui Wai.
Netizens were quick to express their “amazement” online, while some recalled hearing people getting sick after consuming bread purchased at the store.
The store was closed on Wednesday, possibly due to the incident, with a sign that says “closed for one day” displayed.
However, some netizens also shared online that they saw staffers cleaning the bread shelves with cloths.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced on Wednesday that it has received five complaints related to the incident. They indicated that prosecution may be pursued if enough evidence is gathered.
It has also issued a verbal warning to the operator involved.
