This highly anticipated event will feature the world’s top 32 snooker players competing for the championship, with a record-breaking top prize of £180,000 (HK$1.72 million).
Organized by the World Snooker Tour and F-Sports Promotion, and co-organized by the Hong Kong Billiard Sports Control Council, the six-day tournament will take place at Kai Tak Arena, which boasts a capacity of 5,000 spectators.
The event will bring together the season's 32 most successful players, including current world No 1 Judd Trump and seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, both of whom became Hong Kong residents through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme last year.
Vincent Law Wing-chung, chairman of the Hong Kong Billiard Sports Control Council, said this tournament will mark the first ranking event held in the city in 35 years, as well as the largest live audience for a ranking tournament in snooker history.
"I hope through the event, we can show the world that Hong Kong is capable of hosting large-scale sports events and that billiard sports remain a significant aspect of Hong Kong's soft power," Law said.
The organizers, F-Sports Promotion, highlighted that this is the first time the event will be held outside the UK, with the total prize money nearly doubling from £380,000 last year to £700,000, and the top prize increasing from £100,000 to £180,000.
Public tickets will go on sale at Hong Kong Ticketing and Damai starting at 8:18 am on January 27, with prices ranging from HK$80 to HK$2,580.
