This development was confirmed today when the official homepage of the company indicated that four cinemas under the Golden Harvest brand were only selling tickets until today.
The cinemas involved are The Sky at Olympian City, GH MegaBox in Kowloon Bay, StageE in Tuen Mun, and GH Galaxy in Shau Kei Wan. Meanwhile, GH Whampoa and GH Tai Po seem to be unaffected.
This situation is part of a broader trend in the cinema industry, which has been struggling since last year. Nine cinemas have announced their closure or suspension of services, including two from Golden Harvest: GH Kai Tak and Golden Harvest V Walk.
Among the four theaters affected today, GH Galaxy, which began operations on May 18, 2021, has the shortest history, having been established during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the flagship Golden Harvest Grand Ocean Cinema in Tsim Sha Tsui, operational since 1969, will provide limited service starting this Saturday, screening just one evening show.
Netizens have also posted online advising those who have memberships and gift coupons for Golden Harvest cinemas to use them today.
