At approximately 1.28 pm on Thursday (Jan 2), WSD received a salt watermain burst report on Kwun Tong Road near the Hoi Yuen Road roundabout. Large amounts of mud water spill onto the road, transforming the traffic lanes into swamps and severely impeding vehicle movement.
Police cordoned off the area and WSD staff were dispatched for emergency repairs. Part of the lanes of Kwun Tong Road (Mong Kok bound) is being closed to all traffic.
The affected pipe is a saltwater main of 450 millimeters in diameter. The water supply to the pipe has been suspended; however, the nearby toilet flushing water supply remains unaffected.
The WSD team is repairing the affected pipe and aiming to reopen the affected slow lane of Kwun Tong Road by 6 am on Friday (Jan 3).
WSD said it would continue the repair work and that it would strive to reopen the remaining lanes as soon as possible. It apologize for the inconvenience caused.
The Transport Department (TD) said vehicles on Kwun Tong Road heading towards Mong Kok are unable to enter the Hoi Yuen Road roundabout. Motorists intending to travel to Hoi Yuen Road are advised to use alternative routes, as traffic in the area is currently heavy.
The following bus routes have also been affected or diverted: 5R, 11X, 14B, 14H, 15A, 16M, 23, 25R, 38, 38P, 40P, 42C, X42C, 74D, 74E, 74F, 74P, 74X, 93A, 93K, 98A, 274X, 277A, 277E, 277P, 277X, 601, 601P, 606, 606A, 606X, 619, 641 and N619.
