18-year-old worker dies after falling down Central escalator shaft

A male worker lost his life after falling down an escalator shaft during repair works in Central on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 pm at the Euro Trade Centre, located on Des Voeux Road Central. The 18-year-old worker, while conducting repairs, accidentally fell to the bottom of the escalator shaft that connects the first and third floors of a banking center.

His colleagues, witnessing the accident, were shocked and immediately called for emergency services. Upon arrival, rescuers found the victim unconscious and severely injured, with multiple injuries to his face and body.

Approximately an hour after the fall, firefighters successfully extricated the victim from the shaft. He was urgently transported to Ruttonjee Hospital for emergency medical treatment but was unfortunately pronounced dead later.
