The Hong Kong Observatory said it may issue the No.1 typhoon signal later tomorrow to early Friday as Tropical Cyclone Trami is forecast to enter within 800 kilometers of the city. It will also assess the need to issue the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3.
The weather watchdog said Trami is forecast to move west in the general direction to the vicinity of Hainan Island and intensify gradually. Meanwhile, a replenishment of the northeast monsoon will reach southern China towards the weekend.
Under the combined effect of Trami and the northeast monsoon, it will be windy and become cloudy with a few showers over the coast of southern China on Friday and over the weekend.
It added that there are uncertainties in the subsequent movement and intensity of Trami, to which Trami may linger near Hainan Island early next week.
