The introduction of Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Non-Chinese Citizens) has been widely successful among foreign business people due to its convenience, with a strong desire to call for the permit's validity to be extended to 10 years.
This comes after Simon Manning, the managing director of Nina Hospitality, used the permit this morning to travel to Shenzhen via the Futian checkpoint for a meeting on Tuesday.
This is the second time he has used the permit, allowing him to meet clients at least once a month and making travel more convenient. He also appreciated the quick application process and self-service lane, which saved him queuing time.
He noted that the initiative has received positive feedback from Europe, Malaysia, and Singapore business chambers and there is a hope that the duration of the permit can be extended in the future. Manning added that he hopes the extension of the permit's validity could be from five to 10 years.
Applications for the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents opened mid-July this year for non-Chinese permanent residents of the two SARs.
Holders can travel to the mainland multiple times during the five-year validity period and stay for up to 90 days each time.
