A man was arrested on suspicion of theft after a passenger discovered his possessions have been stolen on a HK Express flight traveling from Vietnam to Hong Kong.
The budget airline flight UO561 departed from Da Nang last Saturday (Aug 24) and arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday morning. A 39-year-old male passenger found his belongings -- including a watch worth around HK$330,000, HK$5,000 in cash as well as some foreign currency -- missing from his hand-carry luggage.
The crew requested police assistance upon arrival in Hong Kong.
Officers later intercepted a 57-year-old man with a mainland Chinese passport and recovered all the stolen items from his luggage. The man was arrested on suspicion of theft.
Hong Kong Airlines acknowledged the incident and reminded passengers to secure their carry-on luggage and valuables while on board. Passengers are advised to notify the cabin crew immediately if they notice any suspicious persons or items going missing during the flight.
