The display will be followed by a drone show at the Wan Chai Temporary Promenade on May 11.
Apart from the two events in May, the HKTB will stage another drone performance to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on June 10, which will be complemented by a fireworks display on June 15. Both will be held at the Wan Chai Temporary Promenade.
All events will start at 8 pm and will last about 10 minutes.
“The Labour Day Golden Week is a peak travel season for mainland tourists,” Cheng said.
“We also encourage trade partners in different sectors to provide more tourism products and spending offers with a view to stimulate the economy and to maximize tourism-related receipts.”
Cheng acknowledged that it may not be enough to lure tourists simply with fireworks displays and drone performances but believes these events can help promote a better atmosphere for tourists to enjoy.
He added that a number of organizations are organizing fireworks displays and drone performances at night in several districts on their own and noted that it can produce an energetic environment that echoes the Night Vibes campaign.
