Pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow Ting, who moved to Canada to pursue further studies, is now officially wanted as she jumped bail and failed to report to police.
The deputy commissioner of police (National Security) Kan Kai-yan confirmed Tuesday that Chow was wanted by the force.
Chow, 27, was arrested by the National Security Department for suspected violation of the offense of "collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security."
She said on social media back in December that she would not return to the city to meet her bail conditions.
Kan said Chow's action was a total disregard for law and order, and she was utterly devoid of integrity. He added that police will spare no effort in bringing her to justice under the law.
He also urged Chow to repent and be responsible for her actions before it is too late for regrets.
"Fugitives should not have any delusions that they can evade legal liabilities by absconding from Hong Kong," Kan stressed. "They will be pursued for life unless they turn themselves in."
Chow was sentenced to 10 months in jail in Nov 2020 over an unauthorized assembly charge. She was later released on bail on the condition that she checked in with the police regularly, and her passport was confiscated as she faced an alleged national security charge, along with others, including Jimmy Lai Chee-ying.
