A seven-year-old girl fell to her death in On Tat Estate in Sau Mau Ping on Saturday, which led the mother to have a mental breakdown sending her to hospital.
The 41-year-old mother surnamed Mok, reported the incident to the police around 3.49 am after waking up to find her daughter missing from her home at Tat Chi House and noticed an open window.
Police and paramedics soon came only to find the girl lying on the platform of the first floor, and suspected that she fell from above.
Paramedics provided the girl with resuscitation but in vain, and the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Upon learning of the bad news, Mok had a breakdown and was sent to hospital.
It is understood that the girl Chan was diagnosed with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder two years ago and had to see a doctor on a regular basis.
Chan, a primary two student, lived at a boarding school and would only return home on weekends.
Mok and Chan usually slept together in the living room to better convenience Mok when looking after Chan.
Neighbors said the family moved in a few months ago but had never seen the father. Mok has another older daughter aged about 12 to 13, studying in secondary school, they also said.
