Two hospitalized after water heater exploded in Tai Wai.

Two people were taken to the hospital after a water heater exploded in a Tai Wai apartment Tuesday morning.

Around 10.42 am today, a water heater in a Fu Cheong House apartment at Tai Wai exploded.

The explosion shattered the glass in the apartment, spreading pieces of glass everywhere.

The 17-year-old female tenant who was using the water heater could not escape in time and injured her leg after getting cut by a shard of glass.

Another man passing by the location when the explosion occurred suffered head injuries after he tripped while trying to run away.

The police and paramedics were alerted to the scene by pedestrians who heard the explosion, and the two were taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital.

After a preliminary investigation conducted by the police, it is believed that the water heater was faulty and was awaiting repairs when one of the tenants turned it on and caused it to explode.
