Speaking on a radio program on Saturday, Siu said it is common to have a set of national security laws for countries like the UK, the US, or Australia.
He went on and said Hongkongers are not familiar with the national security concept because the discussion of such an issue would embarrass the UK when the city was still one of its colonies before the handover to Beijing in 1997.
The police chief backed the effectiveness of the national security law, which significantly reduced the number of violent incidents calling for independence and restoring peace and order to the society.
Siu added that these messages help combat violence and terrorism and urged citizens to continuously report any suspicious activity.
