The incident took place at around 6pm on Friday night. The minibus was traveling along Ning Po Street and hit an elder, aged about 80, when making a right into Canton Road. Despite the loud bang and screaming from other pedestrians, the driver was unaware of the hit and kept on driving, leaving behind a 30-meter blood trail.
As the minibus left the scene, other passers-by immediately reported the incident to police. Officers and firefighters soon arrived at the scene but they could only find the road stained with blood without sighting the minibus or the elder it dragged behind.
Police then received report from other citizens who spotted the minibus and the elder outside Bellagio on Castle Peak Road in Sham Tseng, 17 kilometers away from Mong Kok.
Medics arrived at the scene and rescued the elder from underneath the minibus, but he was pronounced dead there.
Police later cordoned off the area and questioned the 70-year-old driver surnamed Chik. Investigation on the cause of the incident is still ongoing.
