All typhoon signals were canceled at 6.20pm as Tropical Storm Lupit moves further away from Hong Kong, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
At 6pm, Tropical Storm Lupit was centered about 220 kilometers east-southeast of Hong Kong and is forecast to move northeast at about 12 kilometers per hour across the coastal waters of Guangdong.
Although Lupit is moving away from Hong Kong, its associated showers and squalls will affect the coast of Guangdong occasionally overnight, said the HKO.
Following the departure of Lupit, the southwest monsoon will occasionally bring heavy showers to Hong Kong in the next couple of days. It will also be windy at times.
The amber rainstorm warning signal was issued by the Observatory at 5.10pm, indicating rainfall exceeding 30 millimeters per hour.
The Observatory also reminded the public that there will be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas. “People who are likely to be affected should take necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to risk posed by the heavy rain and flooding,” the Observatory added.
It also said that heavy rain may bring about flash floods and people should stay away from watercourses.
The thunderstorm warning was also issued at 2.18pm, and has been extended until 9.30pm.
“Occasional squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong.” the Observatory said.
