Hong Kong’s finance chief Paul Chan said the government will set aside HK$1 billion to subsidize some 3000 old buildings in Hong Kong to improve their sewage pipes.
Chan said the move is to address citizens’ concern over environmental hygiene issues such as misconnection and dilapidation of the drainage pipes of buildings amid the city’s Covid epidemic.
According to the government source, buildings aged 40 years or above will be eligible for the plan. The government will subsidize 80 percent of the cost with a ceiling of HK$100,000 for each building.
As for the "Three-nil" buildings, referring to buildings that do not have owners' corporations or any form of residents' organizations, or do not engage property management companies, the Buildings Department will carry out works on the owner's behalf empowered by the Buildings Ordinance.
