Hong Kong’s transport chief believed that the extended operating hours for the city’s border checkpoint to the mainland would be sufficient to allow travelers to return to their homes across the border.
The SAR government announced on Tuesday that the Shenzhen Bay Port will operate around the clock from February 9 to 13, and Lo Wu control point will open until 2 am on February 9 and 12.
Speaking to a radio program Wednesday morning, Secretary for Transport & Logistics Lam Sai-hung believes the two-hour extension at Lo Wu is enough for travelers to make their way back across the border.
He noted that the fireworks display on the second day of the Lunar New Year ends at around 8.30 pm, with plenty of time left for travelers to choose between the city’s border checkpoints.
Meanwhile, the transport chief said authorities will implement the special arrangement in the future depending on the actual needs.
