Divided into eight spectacular scenes, fireworks shells of the 23-minute display will be discharged from three barges and six pontoons. The entire fireworks display will cost around HK$18 million.
On that night, residents in Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-Levels, and Causeway Bay, among other areas could enjoy the spectacular scenes.
The fireworks display features eight acts, according to the director of Hong Kong Star Multimedia Production, Wilson Mao, who is in charge of the production.
He said this year’s display will see the barges launching fireworks that burst 250 meters above sea level, while the pontoons will launch those that burst 100 meters above sea level, creating better layering for the display.
The number of ships used during the show also symbolizes longevity, he added.
Susanna Hui Hon-ching, General Manager of HKT Limited - a sponsor of the firework display, said that hotels and restaurants on both sides of Victoria Harbour already received a large number of booking inquiries.
“I expected the showcase to boost businesses of nearby merchants, as well as promote the night economy,” said Hui.
