Domestic helper draws criticism after restraining a kid on the neck when crossing road

A domestic helper was filmed putting her arm around the neck of a kindergarten pupil to lift him off the ground and carry him across the road in a stranglehold, leading to criticism of suspected child abuse.

The incident happened outside Exit A of the Tin Hau MTR Station on Tuesday. The schoolboy was said to be refusing to cross the road, which led to the female domestic helper lifting him up by putting her left arm around the boy's neck.

During that time, the boy continued to cry and showed signs of discomfort, but his maid not only ignored him, but held his hands to restrain him from struggling. 

She put the youngster down after they had crossed the road.

A female passerby recorded the ordeal and confronted the maid, saying her irresponsible behavior could have hurt the boy.

She then published the video on social media to warn the parents to pay attention to the situation.

It was learned the domestic helper has been arrested on Wednesday, and the case is under investigation by the District Investigation Team of the Eastern District.
