A cabby was recently caught on camera intentionally hitting a pigeon and even reversed his taxi to roll over the little bird’s dead body.
According to a security camera footage circulated online, there are three pigeons in the middle of the road at the time. Two of them spread their wings in time but not for the third one when a taxi drives pass at high speed.
The pigeon, assumed to be dead, lies still in the road after it is hit by the taxi.
After half a minute later, the taxi appears again and reverses to roll over the dead body of the little bird. The cabby is also heard cursing at the bird for getting into his way.
It was understood that the incident occurred at around 2.30 pm on Wednesday.
The video was uploaded to Facebook later that night by concern group Hong Kong Pigeon and Dove Rescue.
The group said they have filed a police report and sought help from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The group blasted that cabby for hitting the gas pedal in a bid to kill those birds. They also appealed to drivers that sometimes one decision made in split seconds can save a lot of lives already.
Police said they received a report yesterday afternoon from a male driver, who said his taxi suspectedly hit a pigeon when traveling along Lee Man Road in Ap Lei Chau. The case was listed a traffic complaint.
