The government plans to rebury the nine graves at Sandy Ridge Cemetery during an operation to prevent illegal hillside burials on Monday.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and the Land Department (LD) previously headed to the Permitted Burial Ground (PBG) of Tai Tau Chau in Sai Kung to fight against illegal hillside burials.
During their operation, they sent out notices to 22 unauthorized graves, urn houses, and urns, requesting that they remove all of them before the time limit.
Nine of them remain at the site and will be reburied at the Sandy Ridge Cemetary, which is expected to take about two days.
Government spokesmen stated that anyone who occupies government land without authorization and does not cease the occupation within the time limit mandated by the notice is committing a crime.
Any properties and buildings on the lands will be demolished or removed, with the people who are illegally using the lands being liable to prosecution.
