Cathay Pacific halted direct flights between Hong Kong and South Africa in November 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic and will resume the service in August 2023, almost three years later.
Among South Africans, the Hong Kong-Johannesburg service is popular because of its convenient connections to Hong Kong as well as Cathay Pacific's extensive Asian network, including Mainland China, Indonesia, Thailand, and more.
The non-stop service between South Africa and Hong Kong will begin on 2 August 2023 with Flight CX748 departing Johannesburg at 11:20 on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving in Hong Kong at 6:00 the following morning, while CX749 will leave Hong Kong at 00:40 and lands in Johannesburg at 07:35.
Flights will be on an Airbus A350-900, configured in a three-class layout with 280 seats. There will be 38 business class seats, 28 premium economy seats, and 214 economy seats.
According to the airline, each cabin class on the A350-900 offers passengers a new experience, including extra-wide cabins, spacious seats, a deluxe inflight entertainment system, Wi-Fi, and comfort and convenience.
