The bronze statue of McDull at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui was vandalized overnight when a graffiti tagger left his mark on the belly of the city’s beloved cartoon character.
Police were called to the scene at 9.02am on Thursday morning after security guards filed a report of the vandalism.
McDull can be seen defaced with light blue graffiti painted on his belly.
McDull had since been barricaded while police are still reviewing surveillance footage. So far, no suspects have been detained.
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, McDull is a young pig who was the unlikely hero of Brian Tse and Alice Mak’s comic strips, standing in the Avenue of Stars as an ambassador for the city’s animation industry.
