Hong Kong track cyclist Sarah Lee Wai-sze has made her victorious return to Hong Kong after winning two medals in the National Games.
She flew back to Hong Kong last night together with her teammates in track cycling to spend Mid-Autumn Festival with her family.
Lee won a gold in the women's track cycling sprint and a bronze in Keirin. She finished all the races for the National Games on Tuesday.
Her teammate Leung Ka-yu won bronze in the men’s omnium event for track cycling.
The six cycling team members took a flight from Zhengzhou, Henan Province to Shanghai yesterday morning and arrived in Hong Kong at around 10pm last night.
As Return2hk has extended to cover mainland areas outside Guangdong province, they can be exempted from two-week compulsory quarantine as long as they test negative of Covid-19.
The team walked out of the restricted area of the airport at around 1am today, showing the gold and two bronze medals won in the games.
"I appreciate Hong Kong people for their support, and for being there to grow with me," Lee said.
She said she was satisfied with her performance as she achieved the goal of getting a gold medal.
She added that she did not expect her opponents to "bury" her in the keirin race, describing it as a bit of a misstep.
But she did play well in the National Games as she was not under as much pressure as in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
As she flew directly to Shaanxi from Tokyo, she has been away from home for a while. Lee said she is glad to return to Hong Kong to spend the Mid-Autumn Festival with her family.
She plans to take a good rest this month, then spend more time on her studies and make good use of her time for cycling training.
She also intended to share her cycling experience with her younger fellows to help them in sports.
