Journalist Nabela Qoser has been informed that her contract with RTHK will not be extended and she will have to leave RTHK by the end of this month, according to media report.
Qoser, an assistant program officer, has been working at RTHK since October in 2017. She was well-known for confronting government officials at press conferences with tough questions during the 2019 anti-extradition bill protests.
Her probation period was supposed to end in October last year but was extended for another 120 days in September. RTHK also reopened investigation regarding complaints towards Qoser filed between July and November in 2019.
In January this year, her probation period was extended for another 120 days by RTHK, and will end on May 30. It means that Qoser will have to leave RTHK three weeks later.
RTHK said that the second extension would allow Qoser to stay until management finishes investigation.
Qoser was required to sign the contract on or before February 28, and RTHK would consider not signing the contract as her resignation. A spokesman for RTHK later said that Qoser had accepted the 120-day contract.
