City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK) is excited to announce the world premiere of WILD (The Musical), an original, full-scale musical featuring a wild animal orchestra in the jungle. Performances take place at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday, 11 and 12 June 2022.
Presented by CCOHK and sponsored by BNP Paribas, WILD (The Musical) is an original work with story and lyrics by Leanne Nicholls, exhilarating music by British composer Nick Harvey and a score orchestrated by Simon Whiteside, whose credits include Rocketman, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Sending out a powerful message of wildlife preservation, WILD (The Musical) tells the captivating story of two animal poachers who discover a wild orchestra in the depths of the jungle and attempt to capture the talented members for a lucrative show on Broadway.
Marking CCOHK’s second orchestra-theatre creation since the success of its award-winning Bug Symphony, WILD (The Musical) features a star-studded cast of 40 local actors, singers, dancers, unicyclists and virtuoso musicians parading in stunning animal costumes as exotic species. Jordan Cheng and Micah Sandt are cast in the role of the scheming poachers while Apollo Wong as the Lion captivates the stage as the baton-wielding and charismatic “King of the Score”. As the jungle comes to life, gazelles, jaguars, hippos, zebras, chameleons and cheetahs show their talents.
CCOHK as the WILD Orchestra will dazzle in live and interactive performances as part of the theatrical story while also providing breathtaking musical accompaniment to the entire show. Eugene Ma directs the stage with movement in HipHop, Wushu, Ballet, Chacha and Jazz dance styles choreographed by Bruce Wong (courtesy of CCDC), Mandy Petty and Sherman Mosquito. Set design is by Isaac Wong, costumes by Yoki Lai, lighting by Eva Yan, sound design by Ha Yan-pui and make-up and wigs by Sunny Chan.
Performed in English and lasting approximately 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission, WILD (The Musical) is suitable for all ages from six and above. Tickets priced at $480, $380, $280, with half-price concessions for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and minder, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients, are available from all URBTIX outlets.
