BrainCo, a Chinese brain–computer interface startup and one of Hangzhou’s “Six Little Dragons,” established its Asia-Pacific headquarters and research and development centre at Hong Kong’s Cyberport yesterday, a move the company called a key step in its global strategy.
Founder and chief executive Han Bicheng said that a visit by the city leader John Lee Ka-chiu in April greatly encouraged the team and reinforced the company’s decision to expand in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is an international hub connecting the world while attracting top scientific talent and leading academic institutions, he said.
Han said this year’s policy address aligns with the company’s mission, providing support for people-oriented scientific research and offering subsidies for amputees to access high-tech prosthetics free of charge.
In addition to smart prosthetics, Han added that the company develops products to help children with autism communicate and devices to assist with sleep.
He said BrainCo aims over the next five to ten years to fit prosthetics for one million people with physical disabilities and assist ten million patients suffering from neurological and brain disorders.
Hong Kong Cyberport Management chairman Simon Chan Sai-ming said BrainCo’s cutting-edge technology will integrate with Cyberport’s ecosystem in artificial intelligence, data science, and cybersecurity, while connecting to local and international markets, aiming to accelerate impactful scientific breakthroughs.
