The Hong Kong Tourism Board has announced that the highly anticipated Hong Kong Cyclothon will take place on November 30, with online registration for the public opening at 10am on Saturday.
This year's event will feature over 6,000 spots available across two popular non-competitive rides: the 50-kilometer and 30-kilometer routes.
Both the 50km and 30km courses will follow their traditional paths, taking participants on a scenic journey across Hong Kong’s iconic infrastructure. The longer route will traverse “four tunnels and three bridges,” including the Cheung Tsing Tunnel, Nam Wan Tunnel, Ting Kau Bridge, and Stonecutters Bridge. The 30km ride will cover “two tunnels and two bridges,” offering a slightly shorter but equally impressive experience.
A major new addition this year is the introduction of the “World University Cup” within the 30km category.
The segment will invite university student cyclists from Hong Kong, mainland China, and overseas to compete, adding an international competitive flair to the mass participation event.
Meanwhile, the professional City Cycling Challenge around Greater Bay Area will see a significant course revamp.
Moving away from the previous loop format in Tsim Sha Tsui, the professional race will now extend over a challenging 30-kilometer point-to-point course.
Riders will start on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and navigate through the Cheung Tsing Tunnel, Ting Kau Bridge, Nam Wan Tunnel, and Stonecutters Bridge.
Adding to the day’s festivities, the Tourism Board will host a Cyclothon Carnival at the West Kowloon Cultural District Art Park.
Open to the public from morning until dusk, the carnival will feature meet-and-greet sessions with professional cyclists, exhibitions and sales of the latest sports gear, and a variety of live stage performances, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.
