South Korean striker Kim Shin-wook who won the AFC Champions League twice has joined Hong Kong's Kitchee Sports Club on a three-year contract until 2026, the club announced on Thursday.
“The 1.97m striker has signed a long-term contract until 2026 after successfully passing his medical, and will wear the no.33 jersey,” an official statement read.
The 34-year-old striker previously played for Ulsan Hyundai and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and won the K.League title twice. Kim also helped both teams win the AFC Champions League in 2012 and 2016, respectively.
Kim played for CSL side Shanghai Shenhua between 2019 and 2021 and Lion City Sailors from Singapore last season (2021-22), where he scored 21 goals in 26 league games.
Kim has scored 16 goals for his national team in 56 appearances since debuting in 2010, and helped South Korea lift the EAFF E-1 Football Championship title in 2015 and 2017.
Kim was on South Korea's 23-player squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as well.
“He is obviously a tall and strong player, but he is also capable of playing in different styles, working smoothly with our attacking players,” head coach Alex Chu Chi-kwong said.
“But most importantly his vast ACL experience makes him the right kind of player for us. I trust that he will help us score a lot of goals and be an outstanding role model for our young players.”
Kitchee now sit second in the league and will face Sham Shui Po SA on Sunday (Feb 5) at the Mong Kok Stadium.
