A man was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday by High Court Judge Anna Lai Yuen-kee after a jury unanimously found him guilty of murdering his three-year-old daughter by violently shaking her to death in 2020.

His daughter, Leung Nga-sze, died from an acute brain bleed believed to be the result of violent shaking.
During sentencing, Lai said the court did not accept the defense's plea for leniency in the child abuse case.The Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights said it was outraged by the cruel and inhuman treatment inflicted on the baby girl Nga-sze, calling on the government to introduce a new offense to penalize bystanders for failing to protect children, completely ban corporal punishment, and incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into the city's domestic laws.
