Hongkongers planning to travel to the United Kingdom must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation in advance starting yesterday.Applicants can fill in personal information, and upload photos and contact details through the mobile app or the British Home Office website.
Under the UK's new entry regulations, individuals from 48 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, must apply for the ETA before traveling or transiting through the country.

It takes about 10 minutes and an approval notification will be sent via e-mail within 3 working days. The fee for each application is 10 (about HK$100).
The British government stated that the new regulations ensure that authorities can obtain tourists' personal information in advance to reduce potential security risks.
"You must apply for an ETA before you travel to the UK. You can travel to the UK while waiting for a decision," according to the UK government website.
The e-authorization is valid for two years and allows multiple entries with a maximum stay of six months during the validity period.
