Stacy ShiThis initiative, according to veteran engineer Yuen Pak-leung, aims to safeguard against potential patent infringement rather than seeking profit.

The ward unit is currently on display at Zero Carbon Park in Kowloon Bay and is slated for dismantling early next year, with some components earmarked for recycling and further research.
Inspired by the Huoshenshan emergency field hospital built during the Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan, Yuen envisioned creating a high-specification isolation ward within a limited footprint.
"The ward features a double-door design, ensuring that only one door can be opened at a time, which prevents pathogen-laden air from escaping the isolation room," Yuen said.
Designed and constructed in just four months, the wards utilize a multi-trade integrated mechanical, electrical and plumbing approach. This design incorporates built-in ventilation air conditioners, eliminating the need for a centralized air-conditioning system. They served as isolation facilities at the AsiaWorld-Expo medical center since the pandemic's onset in 2020.
Yuen hoped this successful experience will inspire the industry to adopt this novel and efficient construction method for future advanced projects. "The project has fulfilled its historic mission, but this is not the end of the road," he said.
