British nationals (overseas) and their family members have until midnight of July 19 to enter the United Kingdom under "Leave Outside the Rules" after the Home Office extended the deadline from June 21.
If you cannot enter the UK under existing pathways to immigration, border officials may consider granting you LOTR at the UK border for up to six months. You can then apply for the BNO visa from within the UK in those six months.
To be eligible for LOTR, one must usually live in either Hong Kong or the UK. Proof of residence can be shown by presenting a Hong Kong identity card, medical card, tax records, educational records, immigration documents, household bills or a letter from an employer or education provider confirming one's employment or study.
The list is not exhaustive.
You'll also need to submit proof you can provide accommodation and financial support for yourself and your dependants, if any, for at least six months.
Examples of evidence include bank statements that show savings, proof of regular income that will continue while in the UK such as pension payments, investment details, an offer of employment in the UK, receipts of educational grants from overseas and more.
With LOTR, you and your dependants are entitled to work or study in the UK, but not to public funds - in other words, make sure you have full health insurance throughout your stay.
