World's first Doraemon drone show to dazzle HK

Fans of manga icon Doraemon will be able to see the world's first drone show featuring the popular Japanese character over Victoria Harbour on Saturday night.

The 20-minute drone show will kick off at 7.30pm, with nearly 1,000 drones displaying different characters and tools, along with local voice actors performing in the show.

The organizer, AllRightsReserved, which brought the Double Ducks to Hong Kong last year, said it is joining hands with Fujiko Pro - Doraemon's company - to hold the 100% Doraemon & Friends exhibition tour, to commemorate the 90th birth anniversary of Doraemon's creator Fujiko F Fujio.

Hong Kong will be the first stop of the exhibition tour.

As a world preview, the first Doraemon drone show will ignite the skies above the harbor, with enthusiasts able to watch the robotic cat Doraemon and friends at the waterfront along the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The characters from the manga and animation series, formed by hundreds of drones, will fly over the harbor with "Take-Copter" - the iconic flying gadget from the cartoon series.

The drones will also form patterns of futuristic gadgets from the robotic cat's "magic pocket," such as "Anywhere Door."

Areas along the Hong Kong Cultural Centre may have limited visibility angles for optimal viewing, and the show may not be fully enjoyed from the Hong Kong Island side.

"Please be reminded that certain areas between the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Hong Kong Museum of Art will be cordoned-off on that day," organizers said.

Meanwhile, the exhibition will open on July 13 and will be divided into free-entry zones and a ticketed exhibition zone, with further details to be announced on Saturday when tickets go on sale on the booking site KLOOK.

Ticket holders can redeem non-sale items upon entry.

The exhibition is also offering a "premium set," which includes a ticket and a complimentary acrylic pin set with a stand and stickers.

The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau said it has been a supporting organization for the exhibition tour in Hong Kong, and had arranged for relevant administrative departments to offer further support.

The bureau has been working closely on publicity arrangements for the event, a spokesman said.

Additionally, it has updated the calendar of mega events in Hong Kong for the second half of this year.
