Hysan Development has launched three V4 Superchargers for Tesla electric vehicles at Lee Garden One in Causeway Bay, the first in Asia, as Hong Kong struggles to meet a rising demand for chargers.
That takes the number of Tesla EV chargers installed at Lee Gardens to 165, making it the largest EV charging hub on Hong Kong Island.
Tesla car owners can recharge their vehicles with three V4 and 12 V3 Superchargers, and 150 free-to-use Destination Chargers, across One to Three of Lee Garden, Hysan Place and Leighton Centre.
The V4 Supercharger allows a Tesla EV to be recharged in 15 minutes for a 275-kilometer drive, with a power output peak rate of 250 kilowatt per car.
This power efficiency is now the same as the V3 Superchargers, but the capacity of V4 will be updated with new features in the future, Tesla said.
The charging costs of V4 Superchargers on Hong Kong Island are the same as those of V3, from HK$3.05 to HK$4.05 per kilowatt-hour between 4 am to 12 midnight.
V4 Superchargers feature a longer cable to provide easier access.
Across Hong Kong, Tesla has installed 351 Superchargers in 70 stations and 855 Destination Chargers in 129 places, far less than over 40,000 EVs sold in the region.
Excluding Tesla, there were about 6,100 chargers in the city as of June.
The government is looking to install chargers in over 150,000 car parking spaces in private buildings by 2025 and stop registering fuel-powered vehicles by 2035.
Ricky Lui Kon-wai, Hysan's executive director and chief operating officer, believes the updated chargers will encourage more drivers to switch to EVs and speed up Hong Kong's shift towards green mobility.
But the largest landlord in Causeway Bay added its focus is on Hong Kong Island for now and there is no plan to expand the program to other districts in Kowloon and the New Territories.
Tesla's regional director Isabel Fan Jingyi said the company expects to work with more partners to promote sustainable energy development in Hong Kong.
