A 46-year-old waiter who allegedly sexually harassed a South Korean livestreamer in Central during her visit in the SAR, will appear in an Eastern magistrate's court today for indecent assault after she made a report to the police yesterday.
The Indian waiter in Kennedy Town was arrested yesterday after a video that went viral showed the well-known South Korean livestreamer, may5w, being harassed by him during a recording on Monday night at Central MTR station where he allegedly touched, hugged her from behind, as well as forcefully kissed her on the cheek.
Police received 10 online reports on the incident on Monday and urged her to contact them.
The livestreamer continued on with her trip to Macau after the incident but returned to Hong Kong yesterday.
She told fans on interactive livestreaming platform Twitch yesterday she was taking a ferry from Macau to Hong Kong. "Today I will go to the police," she said, adding that she is flying home after that.
She took the train to Admiralty after arriving at Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan about 3 pm. "I will go to the [consulate general]. They will help me. Also I will find the police," she told fans. She is understood to have given a statement at Central police station.
People who had seen the video recognized the suspect as an employee of an Indian restaurant under the Black Sheep Restaurants group.
But Rajasthan Rifles on the Peak said he had not been working for it for a year.
"We are aware of the situation. This individual is not a part of the Rajasthan Rifles team or the Black Sheep community and has not been for one year," it said Tuesday, adding that "we deplore and do not tolerate this type of behavior."
The footage showed the woman waiting for a tram at night on Pedder Street to get to her hotel in Sai Ying Pun when the man hit on her.
Both thought the tram had ceased operation, so he suggested they take the MTR as he lives in Kennedy Town.
He started touching her while walking to Central station before hugging her and pushing her against a wall.
"Please don't hold my arm," the obviously frightened woman said.
But the man kept getting close to her and said: "I am alone, come with me."
Although the woman said she was not alone and refused the man, he continued to touch her and pressed her against the wall.
The woman then screamed for help, forcing the man to take to his heels.
