Lion dancer takes an unlucky fall

A lion dancer accidentally fell and turned a cai qin performance into kowtow - an act of deep respect shown by prostration - during a Lunar New Year performance in a West Kowloon shopping mall.

A video clip shows the lion-head dancer first riding on the shoulders of the lion-tail performer, assisted by other two troupe members, trying to grab a green vegetable hanging outside a luxury men's fashion store - a feat meant to bring good luck and fortune to the business.

When the lion-tail performer slowly stands up, the lion head accidentally falls to the ground upside down after other members failed to catch it.

Another clip shows the leader of the lion dance troupe temporarily switching the dancer who manipulates the lion tail. While the fallen dancer was not injured, the troupe performed in the store instead of continuing to cai qing.

Web users described it as a "drunk lion" and said "it's an unlucky sign." One said "it means the store's business this year will fall like the lion."
