Fifteen young scholars from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong who have done great work have each received two million yuan (HK$2.29 million) from China's Excellent Young Scientists Fund to spur them to produce more of the same.The 10 from HKU are Philip Chow Chi-yung (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Wu Chenshu (Computer Science), Huang Yuanhua (Biomedical Sciences), Eric Wan Yuk-fai (Family Medicine and Primary Care), Wang Weiping (Pharmacology and Pharmacy), Hui Chun-yin (Mathematics), Celia Marei Schunter (Biological Sciences), Wang Chenjie and Yang Yi (Physics) and Ran Lishan (Geography).
The fund makes the grants annually to support male scientists under 38 and female scientists under 40 who have realized outstanding achievements in research to expand into areas of their choice.

The five from CUHK are Huang Junfei (Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics), Lee Man-chun (Mathematics), Wang Ying (Chemistry), Zhang Xiang (Medicine and Therapeutics) and Zhuang Xiaohong (Life Sciences).
