Young iron man seizes gold

Hong Kong's Oscar Coggins won gold in the under-23 Asia Triathlon Championships on Saturday in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

The 22-year-old Coggins, who placed 33rd in the men's triathlon at the Tokyo Olympics, powered his way to glory with a swim-cycling-road running combination.

He moved steadily in the 1.5-kilometer swim, powered up on the pedals to finish the 40km bike ride in second place, and then didn't look back after hitting the front in a 10km run.

His winning time was 1 hour, 51 minutes and 14 seconds. Following him were Kazakhstan's Daryn Konysbayev and China's Chen Qing.

It was an impressive team showing by Hong Kong: Jason Ng Tai-long and Nicholas Tsang Cheung-sing finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Also representing Hong Kong, 19-year-old Charlotte Hall clinched bronze in the under-19 women's race after swimming 750 meters, biking 20km and running 5km.

One place behind was Hong Kong's Pauline Courret.
