An animal protection group has paid a heartfelt tribute to the owner of a pet hotel who died after being attacked by a dog under her care. Jojo, the 33-year-old licensee of the "Pawsgates" pet hotel and dog training center in Ta Kwu Ling's Ping Che Village, was fatally mauled by a large, mixed-breed dog on Thursday.
The animal rescue organization, ARP HK, which had previously collaborated with Pawsgates on adoption days, posted a memorial on social media on Friday evening.
In the poignant post, they lamented the loss of their former partner, writing, "You would even forget your own meals for the sake of the fur kids, why did it have to be you?"
ARP HK remembered Jojo as an enthusiastic and generous person who was always willing to share her knowledge.
She would often joke that she was a "dog slave" and truly treated the animals as her own family. "I will always remember the gentleness with which you would squat down to meet a scared dog at eye level and whisper, 'It's okay, it's okay,'" the group wrote.
The organization expressed that with Jojo's passing, they have lost not just a peer in the industry, but "one of our most willing comrades-in-arms." They concluded their tribute with a simple, heartfelt wish for her to rest in peace.
