Police have arrested 69 people in an anti-fraud and money laundering operation linked to 61 cases involving about HK$190 million.
The operation was conducted by the Kowloon West Regional Headquarters and its divisions between March 9 and March 20 across multiple districts in Hong Kong.
Those arrested — aged between 19 and 79 — include local residents, mainland Chinese and foreign nationals. They are suspected of obtaining property by deception and dealing with proceeds of indictable offences, commonly known as money laundering.
Police said the suspects were allegedly involved in various types of scams, including online shopping, investment, phone and job-related fraud.
Most of those arrested are believed to be holders of “mule” bank accounts used to process illicit funds.
During the operation, officers seized mobile phones, bank cards and laptop computers, and identified more than 150 bank accounts from electronic devices.
