The incident occurred on December 10, 2021, at the junction of Staunton Street and Peel Street. Court proceedings revealed that Lagurin had left her car on a sloping road without properly securing it. The vehicle rolled downhill, striking pedestrians. One victim, Ma Elodie, was trapped under the car and later died, while seven others sustained injuries, some serious.
Deputy Magistrate Casewell Timothy Harry noted that the defendant should have ensured the vehicle was safely parked. Expert testimony confirmed that the car’s braking and parking systems were functioning normally, ruling out mechanical failure.
Lagurin denied both charges but was convicted of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. She has been remanded in custody and is scheduled for sentencing on March 6.
