Three primary school students in Cheung Chau have been praised for their composure and quick thinking after helping an injured hiker who suffered a fractured arm and severe facial injuries during a fall last Friday.
The incident occurred at about 4.20pm near the North Lookout Pavilion along Cheung Chau Family Walk trail. The man slipped and fell, fracturing his left arm and sustaining a deep chin wound that left him bleeding heavily.
According to a social media post by the victim’s family, the area was otherwise deserted when the three students from Cheung Chau Sacred Heart School passed by. The children immediately called for help and clearly reported the exact location to the police.

While waiting for rescue teams to arrive, the students stayed with the injured man, offering him snacks, including seaweed, to comfort him. They remained at the scene until he was safely transferred to an ambulance. As a result, the three returned home late for dinner that evening.
The victim’s sister later posted online in an attempt to locate the students and thank them in person. She said her brother had undergone surgery and was in stable condition but “kept thinking about the three children” upon regaining consciousness.
“If it weren’t for their help and companionship at that moment, the consequences would have been unimaginable,” she wrote, adding that their parents should feel proud to have raised such brave children.
The injured man also responded publicly, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the “little heroes.” He said no one else was present at the scene and praised the children for remaining calm.
He said they were able to provide emergency responders with the precise coordinate numbers of his location in the shortest possible time, enabling rescue personnel to locate him quickly. He noted that such composure in a crisis is something “even many adults may not be able to do.”
In addition to calling for help, the students stayed by his side and comforted him until he was rescued. He said he is now recovering after surgery and described the children, along with their parents and school, as “the pride of Hong Kong.”
Cheung Chau Sacred Heart School said in a Facebook post on the day of the incident that it had learned of the event and commended the three students for their good deed. The school described the act as exemplary and awarded each student a merit as recognition, expressing hope they would continue to grow into responsible citizens.
The students’ actions also drew widespread praise online. Netizens described them as calm and compassionate, with some suggesting they should be nominated for a Good Citizen Award in recognition of their bravery and civic spirit.
